It's been a while since we've visited this café, so we were unaware. It's under new management. My husband and I enjoy visiting here after a hike, and today we were both craving hush puppies, and I am particular was looking forward to the catfish. We were surprised to learn that the restaurant now has TexMex cuisine. My husband noticed one of the dinner specials listed for catfish, and asked the server if there was anyway I could possibly order this for lunch. He quickly said, let me find out, and came back to let me know that the answer was yes. Woohoo! Both my meal, and my husband's (the beef brisket sandwich), were delicious. The catfish was just as delicious as I remembered, as were the hush puppies. I'm sure we'll be back the next time we're in the area.

This restaurant is OPEN! We have not had a meal here since the new owners took over. The restaurant now has a "Tex-Mex" theme. But, the still have much traditional of what the old regulars are accustomed to. Anxious are we to give it a try.

Family owned and right by the Lake! We didn't visit the lake, but we were coming from Safari Park, which was only a 15 min drive up the winding roads. Great place to visit after a busy morning to sit down here! Parking is easy, just pull right up, it's on the left side across the Lake. We were greeted and seated right away, this was about 1pm on Sunday, not crowded but did pick up when we left. Very country lousinana feel. They are known for the catfish... not locally caught from the lake haha. The inside has alot of John Wayne which is a personal favorite of mine, and just a homey style to it. Has a bar and karaoke! What's not to appreciate and love about that? You can tell it's definitely one of those places it's the local fishing hole and regulars come to eat and chat. Shaded Outdoor seating Restrooms could be cleaner. (Knocked off a star here) unfortunately looked very neglected. Maybe after breakfast rush? Not sure, but that uneasy feeling where folks cant properly wash hands coming back into the restaurant is pretty important in my ratings. Everything was empty and just unkept. Sorry for the knock on the star. Service was a little rocky but they were training. But they were so friendly and welcoming. We're patient enough to understand training new folks. OK now food! There's a little bit of everything, try the catfish, just really really good recipe used for the breading and homemade tarter. The gravy is homemade and definitely to one personal taste. Heavy rosemary light on the sausage ... not what I'm used to, it was nice to try something different. Chicken fried steak is tender easy cut with a fork how it should be! Yum! The home fries, again definitely to ones taste... these are very different having potatoes and peppers and onions. Has a nice seasoned crisp to to them. With heart, tastes just like making at home and not mass made. Which will account for a little longer wait time for food. Looks like the manager was in the kitchen, very busy gal and definitely puts her heart into the place. Reuben where delicious, onion rings crispy. Breakfast burrito has a tang spice to it. Smothered all over, tip: add a biscuit! Pancakes light n fluffy A wonderful family kid friendly restaurant to stop by at after / before lake or from the safari park. It's always great to help support the local businesses around. Cheers and enjoy

The staff was wonderfully attentive. You know how most places only 'allow' you to speak to one employee - your wait person only. We were tended to by 4 different people. Friendly, happy people. My lunch was very good. The Reuben was excellent! My choice of a side was hush puppies. Wow. Kindof missed honey (& I didn't ask - they may have had it if I had requested) but they were very good. My friend had catfish, cole slaw, & hush puppies. She said it was all very good. Fun ambience - not enough parking.

Searching for a nice place for breakfast today... Wife and I went here for the 1st time. Nice drive up the mountain. Great place for a change. Feels like good getaway place. Just tired of "in city" restaurants and wanted a change. Coffee is good, food is good, very friendly. After ordering we were greeted by the manager as well. Nice place. We will be back.

The breakfasts are still good here and rather popular on a Sunday morning; but having endured the recent downpours of weather, the road/s up here are somewhat treacherous from the California- popular potholes that are abundant around every corner, so the trade off is now only dining here when we happen to go by here. Servers are always the nicest and attentive of any American cafe, just here the employees only have about one business to chose from, so they treat you like locals. The corned beef is still spot on as well as the cinnamon laced pancakes went down twice as easy this time. Oh and they served us an amuse bouche of cinnamon sugar tortilla chips. Hmm, not every table got 'em. This place is now on our periodic destination list. Dicks

10 loud ass successful Black women and a baby lol! This spot is a hidden gem. The food was Affordable, awesome and the service was impeccable. We were welcomed by the owner and her waitstaff. They checked in on us and treated us with the finest hospitality. There's outdoor seating as well, but we stayed inside. They also serve champagne so this is definitely a winner for me.

One of the lucky places which popped up on our to go to with our Yelper friends Soo and Maggie. Soo had suggested this place as he mentioned he always saw it on his way to Valley View Casino, so we scheduled to come here! We came on a weekend on February 22nd. Be warned that service may be limited for cellular! The day we came, although was raining and drizzling, was right when we met new management! New owner Mary was very friendly and had popped over to over table after Soo had first explored the area to take pictures. We discovered that the cafe was switched out from frozen to all fresh ingredients. The decor of the restaurant was quite interesting, a giant swordfish (I think?) decorated the ceiling, and pictures galore on the walls where we were sitting. The bathrooms are kind of tiny, and they're by the front door from when you first enter. Liang and I ordered the fried catfish and codfish - with the sides of hushpuppies, fries, cole slaw, and the house salad. The menu had some limitation at the time, as Mary had told us the menu was going to be revamped. When our food came out, the fish was nicely fried and crispy. Liang had said that the fish didn't taste fishy - which to him - means fresh! Plus our waitress gave us a clever tip of having some honey on the hushpuppies which made it taste so good! The house salad was good too. The cole slaw was a bit watered down, but after squeezing some lemon in, made all the difference. We crossed the street after to take a quick glance at the lake, which was just a beautiful earthy area to look at (especially as it just finished raining). I'm looking forward to when we can go check out Lake Wohlford after COVID 19. Very curious about the menu! Koi

Birds are chirping.  Frogs are croaking.  An eagle is circling overhead.  Scent of rain fills the air.  Roar of thunder comes down the mountain.  Lake Wohlford is a nice relaxing spot to get away from the city.  I have passed by the lake many times on the way to Valley View Casino.  I was able to arrange a foodie road trip with our friends Lisa and Liang to try Smokey's Lake Wohlford Cafe. After a quick look at the menu I picked the $17.99 all you can eat catfish dinner.  Fresh catfish was battered in corneal.  Texture was soft and delicate.  Loved the light flavor of the catfish and cornmeal.  Good take on a classic southern dish.  French fries were crispy and I liked the potato flavor. Hibiscus tea had that unique hibiscus flavor.  I liked the natural flavor.  I'm glad they didn't drown it in sugar.  You can add it yourself if that is your preference. Seems the old owner Smoky got sick and the cafe was sold.  New owner Mary was very friendly and took the time to greet all her guests and see how they were doing.  She chatted with us a bit and I found out she has switched the cafe to using fresh ingredients and switched out all the frozen food.  Later in the year there will be a grand opening with a Lion dance. 2nd visit I tried the double burger.  2 beef patties and 4 strips of bacon made for a huge meal.  Beef was tender and seasoned.  Bacon was crispy and had a delicious hickory smoked flavor.  Lettuce and tomato were fresh and juicy.  Very good burger. Onion rings were beer battered and crunchy with delicious onion flavor. Road trip to Lake Wohlford was awesome. I loved the fried catfish and $17.99 for all I can eat was a great deal.
